Bongo Java Roasting Co. is Nashville’s first certified organic coffee roaster and Bongo Java coffeehouse is the oldest coffeeshop in the city, opening in March of 1993. 

Bob Bernstein and a group of local investors opened Bongo Java as a single coffeehouse concept and today they have more than five concepts across the city.

Today, Bongo Java is a multimillion dollar company, but they have stayed true to their mission to “strengthen communities by expanding the definition of quality to include concerns about how our stuff is produced, purchased and promoted.”

Their coffee is sourced from small-scale farmers at prices above the “fair-trade” price, they purchase dairy, meats, and produce from local farmers, and strive to create a culture with an emphasis on family and community.
